Operation of the Business One Stop Shop (BOSS), the simplified procedure of acquiring business registration and renewal has been extended until January 31.

The BOSS, located at Centro Latino in Paseo del Mar, will resume operation today, Monday, January 22 until January 31 from Mondays to Fridays, 8am to 5pm.

This, as Mayor Beng Climaco approved City Ordinance 2018-180 which extends the payment of the city taxes and fees for the first quarter of 2018 to the end of January 2018, amending for the purpose Section 4 of Ordinance 92-008, entitled “Revenue Ordinance of the City of Zamboanga and Providing Penalty Thereof.”

Originally, the law sets January 20 as the deadline for the payment of all city license taxes for the first quarter of the year and that late payments will result to a surcharge of  the Local Government Code however, provides that the City Council may “for justifiable reasons or cause, extend the time of payment of such taxes, fees or charges without surcharges or penalties but only for a period not exceeding six (6) months.”

The extension of the BOSS operation is per request of City Licensing Officer Benjie Barredo who stressed that the extension will allow the BOSS to “complete the process of renewal and issuance of all applications for business permits considering that it is impossible to complete the renewal and issuance of business permits on Jan. 20, 2018.”

Ordinance 2018-180, authored by Councilor Cesar Jimenez, Chair of the Committee on Ordinances and Resolutions, cited the urgent need to extend the time of payment of such taxes, fees or charges without surcharges or penalties considering the voluminous applications received by the BOSS since January 3, 2018.

January 21, 2018 was declared a rest day for BOSS personnel who have worked 12 hours a day since Jan. 3. (Sheila Covarrubias)
