Zambo agri, fish products headlines Cosechas de Zamboanga

The best of the City’s agriculture and fish products are on display and for sale at the Cosechas de Zamboanga which formally opened yesterday, October 3, at Plaza Pershing.

Now on its 13th year, the Cosechas is an annual initiative spearheaded by the Office of the City Agriculturist (OCA) and the Department of Agriculture to showcase locally produced products by the different agricultural and fishery organizations from the city’s 6 agricultural districts.

A total of 30 exhibitors have joined this year’s Cosechas which will run from October 3-27 as part of the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival 2017.

Mayor Beng Climaco spearheaded the Cosechas opening program where she lauded the city’s farmers and fisher folks for their dedication and their efforts to see to the agricultural needs of the city and its residents.

“You give us a lot of hope. I remembered last year, we had guests from out of Zamboanga, tan advertise gayot kita el maga products. Let us prepare to really give our best for God, country, and Zamboanga City,” Climaco said.

Products on display and for sale at the agri-trade fair range from fruits and vegetables, fish products, to plant cuttings and seedlings, and organic products.

Also on display is a bahay kubo exhibit, a local project initiated by the OCA which calls for residents to plant vegetables in their homes.

“This is the sample of buhay kubo, este uno project del di aton alcaldeza under the ELA project wherein all houses in Zamboanga are required to come up and plant vegetables in their backyards,” City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat said. (Jasmine Mohammadsali)
