Mayor Beng Climaco has directed the police to expedite investigation and resolution of rape-slay cases particularly those involving two college students found dead in Lunzuran last January and in Pasonanca recently.
The directives were issued to Police Station 5 Chief PCI Arlan Dalumpines who is spearheading the investigation on the case of Erica Jean Rosal who was found dead last January 6 at the diversion road in Lunzuran and Police Station 7 Chief PCI Joseph Ortega who is leading the probe on the case of Clarisse Faylona who was found in an abandoned building in Pasonanca last April 9.
Mayor Climaco said the police were not given a time-frame to resolve the said cases citing issues with some witnesses. “Even if we give them deadline to resolve the case but if witnesses are not cooperating then it will become a problem.”
Nonetheless, the mayor advised parents to assert their roles and always be aware of the activities and whereabouts of their children. “It will be very helpful if there is the participation of the family to prevent incidents of violence where the young ones are the victims,” she added.
For his part, PSSupt. Luisito Magnaye said the police are exhausting all means to resolve the two separate cases saying that the investigators are focusing on certain leads. He said the police are taking their time to prevent a haphazard investigation.
The police chief also ruled out the possibility of the existence of a certain group preying on young women. (Sheila Covarrubias)
