City government emergency responders, policemen and barangay volunteers are undergoing a 5-day disaster risk reduction and management capacity building training under the auspices of the CDRMMO.
Set from April 17-21, the training covers 3 areas: Basic Life Support, Collapse Structure Search and Rescue and Water Search and Rescue and involved lectures, role plays and simulation of disaster situations. The training is organized in partnership with the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Station Zamboanga.
The basic life support training was conducted by the CDRRMO’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on the first day while the BFP and CDRRMO took charge of the training on collapsed structure search and rescue on the second day. The last 3 days covered water search and rescue training and was facilitated by the PCG.
Some 60 personnel from ZCPO and CDRRMO and selected barangay officials from disaster-prone areas are taking part in the training which is in line with the City government’s disaster preparedness program.
The training in rescue operations is expected to equip the participants with the needed skills in times of emergency situations. (Sheila Covarrubias)
