The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) on Monday handed over to the City Government a cash incentive of P100, 000 as funding support for the city’s sports development program.
The P100k check together with a plaque was turned over to Mayor Beng Climaco and City Sports Development Officer Dr. Cecilia Atilano by PSC Commissioner Celia Kiram as the city’s incentive for its participation in the 2016 Batang Pinoy National Championship held Oct. 22-29 where Zamboanga placed fourth place.
Commissioner Kiram said the funding support can be used either to buy a sports equipment or construct a sports facility for use of young athletes.
Mayor Climaco thanked the PSC through Kiram for the incentive saying it will be a big help to the city’s efforts to further hone the sports abilities of the young generation.
Meanwhile, Kiram said starting next year, as approved by the PSC Board of Commissioners, the incentives for local government units will be increased to P3M for first place, P2M for second place, P1M for third place and P500K for fourth and fifth places.
“We hope next time around Zamboanga City will be number one,” Kiram said during the turnover rites held after the flag raising ceremony in front of City Hall Monday morning. (Sheila Covarrubias)
