Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa thanked the city government of Zamboanga under the leadership of Mayor Beng Climaco for its enormous support to the local police and military forces in this part of the region.

Speaking at the commemorative program yesterday afternoon, celebrating the 80th Charter Day of Zamboanga (Dia de Zamboanga), dela Rosa cited the newly constructed Zamboanga City Police Office building (at the back of City) amounting to almost P30 million, which he together with Mayor Climaco unveiled after the program.

The city’s peace and order program for 2017 amounts to P156.23 million, an increase of 25.1% from the previous budget in 2016 amounting to P124.89 million. This increase in the budget will cover the procurement of communication units, fire trucks, patrol vehicles, fire arms and additional motorcycles including the construction of fire stations at Mercedes, Sta. Maria, Tugbungan, and Quiniput, and the construction of police station in Sta Maria.

All these peace and order programs from 2013 to 2017 have now reached a whooping amount at P876.44 million, the highest ever invested by any other administration.

These included the purchase Kevlar helmets and bullet proof vests, 3 Ford Ranger, 1 Ford Everest and 10 XRM motorcycles.

Yesterday’s celebration kicked off with a grand civic-military parade from the Fire Station to Paseo del Mar for the commemorative program with the PNP chief as guest of honor and keynote speaker.-(Vic Larato)
