Duterte appoints Beng RPOC-9 chairperson

President Rodrigo R. Duterte appointed Mayor Beng Climaco as chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) in due recognition of her sustained peace keeping efforts and massive support to the police and military forces in the city of Zamboanga.

Climaco’s appointment was endorsed to the President by Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael D. Sueno in his capacity as chairman of the National Peace and Order Council (NPOC) pursuant to the provisions of Executive Order No. 773 series of 2009.

“This Order shall take effect upon the approval of the President,” signed by Sec. Sueno and approved by Pres. Duterte.

In accepting her appointment, Mayor Climaco thanked President Duterte for vesting her the trust and confidence to lead and supervise the maintenance of peace and order not only in Zamboanga City but throughout the Zamboanga Peninsula.

The RPOC-9 exercises subversion over the peacekeeping forces in the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay, and the cities of Pagadian, Dipolog, Dapitan, Zamboanga and Isabela.

Climaco will have Regional Police Director Chief Supt. Billy Beltran as vice chairman.

“This is an honor for us in the city of Zamboanga. We vow to work diligently to better serve our people,” the mayor said in her message to all city government officials and employees during the flag raising ceremony yesterday morning.

She recalled that Pres. Duterte had visited the city five times last year and in his fourth visit “he told me I will sign it when I get back to Malacañang on Monday,” apparently referring to her appointment as RPOC-9 chair.

“With this, a very important role that we play in the region as we lead in the peace and order of the Zamboanga Peninsula. We are encouraging particularly the police to help in peace keeping, resolve the illegal drugs problem, fight criminality, anti-terrorism campaign, anti-smuggling, and the overall peace and order situation of the entire region,” said Climaco in her message at the flag ceremony attended by all 11 police station commanders in the city.

To recall, the city government under Climaco’s administration has invested more than P500 million in peace and order efforts in support to the police and military forces here.

Among this assistance were the provision of vehicles, motorcycles, firearms and ammunition to the police, including administrative supplies like computers, gasoline and infrastructures.
